Attracting around 1700 entries, with some 15,000 participants, it is reputed to be the largest regatta in the world and is a colourful sight not to be missed! Starting on the famous Royal Yacht Squadron line in Cowes, the fleet races the 50 mile course westabout, to The Needles, round St Catherine’s Point and Bembridge Ledge buoy back into the Solent. Competitors come from Europe and the USA, as well as all over the UK. Everyone enjoys the superb day’s racing, as one of last years competitors commented: “It’s the Grand National of sailing. The greatest spectacle ever.”
